What would happen if, say, Dan DiDio or Joe Quesada resigned their post tomorrow and gave it to a female comics creator - like Gail Simone?

The fanboys would be crying in their beer.
Oi, achei teu blog pelo google tá bem interessante gostei desse post. Quando der dá uma passada pelo meu blog, é sobre camisetas personalizadas, mostra passo a passo como criar uma camiseta personalizada bem maneira. Até mais.
This fanboy would be crying in his beer out of joy. I don't know if having a woman in the role would be any different than having anyone but those two professional hucksters in their roles. Neither seems to actually affect how the company is run...they pretty much just hype. I doubt there'd be any drastic changes in content, because they'd still need to cater to the same audience.
Right now, I think many "fanboys" would blame the "feminazis" for this and predict horrible terrible Desperate Housewive-ish stories to come out.
And then they'd go troll WFA to spam us all with hateful comments. :(
Gail would run amok and abuse her power. Which admittedly would be pretty cool.
Actually, would there be any big, sweeping changes? Or is the business just like a slow moving train, impossible to steer off the course it's chosen? I do think a lot of the most recent nonsense--the H4H cover, anime Supergirl toys--wouldn't fly under Gail's reign. Whether that's because she's a woman, because she gives a rat's ass about the characters, or because she has taste that's not in her mouth; well, that's up to you.
I'd actually be quite upset if either one turned the reins over to Gail Simone.
See, I was upset when Dan DiDio took over DC, because I'd read his comics. I absolutely and completely loathed his run on Superboy, in which he ran the title into the ground right in time for cancellation. I feared greatly for what might happen if he were given that kind of control over the whole DC Universe. And yet, these days I think he's a great guy and I love most of the changes he's made.
But I'm sure glad that his editorial position has kept him from churning out any more crappy scripts. Honestly, when was the last time you saw him write a comic?
So, if Gail Simone, a writer I love and one of the few who seems to be able to make her deadlines regardless of how many titles she's writing, and still put out quality work, were to get a job which prevented her from writing, I'd be pretty torqued. I imagine she'd be fantastic at the job, and she'd do great things for the DCU, but damn it, I want to read her books!
Hm...Tom, you make a good point. Someone like Simone in the Big Chair might mean less stellar books out there, but if s/he were able to effect some kind of change for the company (and therefore the medium, as I imagine the other company would follow suit if it were successful), I think it would be an acceptable loss.
But like googum said, I think it might not be something that can be done with a simple editorial change. It might take a lot of little baby steps to change things, as opposed to a giant motion.
